Called Together

The goal of our sermon series on the first part of the Book of Acts is to reorient our community to the calling of being Christ’s church born of the Spirit, with all of the beauty and complexity that entails. In particular, as The Table begins to re-emerge from two years of church life shaped by the fragmentation of the pandemic and also enters a merger with Resurrection City, a community that is black-led and queer-led, we want to consider the contours of what it means to be the church in our world.

Each sermon will consider an aspect of what it means to be the church here and now through a particular passage or passages from the book of Acts. We’ll pay special attention to the work of the Spirit in creating the church with attention to such questions as these:

  • What does it mean to create and participate in sustained life together? What does it mean to move toward the joining that the Spirit calls us to? How can we as a church joyfully create a common life?
  • What lessons can we learn from the boundary-crossing, intercultural communities which the book of Acts describes?
  • How do stories in the book of Acts help us think about issues of leadership and conflict?
  • What does it mean for the church to be scattered and sent? How has that been problematic? In what ways can that be redeemed?
